Vienna's Hauptbahnhof Resumes Operations After Security Alert

VIENNA (Reuters) -Police evacuated Vienna's main train station on Monday over an unspecified threat, halting rail traffic before giving the all clear around 90 minutes later, but national rail company OBB warned continued delays and cancellations were expected.

While the police did not describe the threat, some Austrian media said it was a bomb threat. Austria suffered a series of empty bomb threats last year that prompted the clearing of larger stations, causing delays to train traffic.

"The operation at #Hauptbahnhof Wien has been completed and the search was negative," Vienna police said on X, using the station's name in German.

During the evacuation, police sealed off a large perimeter around the station, a major rail hub with services to and from neighbouring countries including Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany and Italy.

"Good news! Our trains are running again at Vienna main station. Please expect continued delays and train cancellations," OBB said on X.
