LONDON (Reuters) - Britain has awarded a 285-million-pound ($355.57 million) contract to London-listed BAE Systems to upgrade the Ministry of Defence's Royal Navy combat systems, the government said on Tuesday.

Last week, the government said it had monitored a Russian spy ship in the English Channel, and promised to strengthen its response to secret operations by Russian ships and aircraft to protect undersea cables.

The new contract will boost the Royal Navy’s warship combat systems and increase their ability to track, analyse and respond to threats in combat, the statement on Tuesday added.
