(Reuters) -British water regulator Ofwat proposed on Tuesday a 62.8 million pound ($83.9 million) enforcement package on water utility Anglian Water, to be paid by the company and its shareholders, over failures to maintain its wastewater treatment network.

"Our investigation has found failures in how Anglian Water has operated and maintained its sewage works and networks, which has resulted in excessive spills from storm overflows. This is a serious breach and is unacceptable," Lynn Parker, senior director for enforcement at Ofwat, said in a statement.
