Greek Court Convicts Man for 2020 Death of British Woman in Corfu

ATHENS (Reuters) - A Greek court has found a man guilty over the 2020 death of a British woman on the tourist island of Corfu, lawyers said on Thursday.

Claire Glatman, 60, was fatally injured when she was hit by the propeller of a speed boat while swimming off the beach of Avlaki, on the northeastern coast of Corfu.

A local court on Wednesday handed down a three-year suspended prison sentence to a 51-year-old Greek man, a speed boat operator, for negligent manslaughter. He denied wrongdoing and has appealed against the verdict, said his lawyer George Kaloudis.

"Claire's life was cut short in tragic circumstances," Glatman's family said in a statement, accusing the defendant of delaying the court process and denying the family closure.

"We are grateful that the court has now reached its verdict," the statement read.
