Italy Fines GLS €8M Over Misleading Green Policies

ROME (Reuters) - Italy's competition authority AGCM on Tuesday said that it had fined logistics company GLS 8 million euros ($8.26 million) for alleged unfair commercial practices in its environmental sustainability program.

The regulator said that GLS's 'Climate Protect' initiative, was "organised, financed and communicated without the transparency, rigor, and diligence" due in a high-polluting sector such as goods shipping and delivery.

It said GLS forced its network of suppliers to pay for carbon emission compensation certificates, overcharging them for that service, and presented its green policies in an ambiguous and not sufficiently clear manner.

GLS Italy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
