Dutch prosecutors seek jail term for ex-ASML employee accused of spying, media
ROTTERDAM (Reuters) -Dutch prosecutors are seeking a four-year prison sentence for a former employee of computer chip equipment maker ASML, accused of stealing and selling corporate secrets to a Russian buyer, Dutch media outlet NOS Nieuws reported on Thursday.
The Russian suspect, German Aksenov, who has been in pre-trial detention since August 2023, denied being a Russian spy and told the court he kept confidential documents to maintain his professional knowledge, NOS Nieuws said.
Neither the Dutch prosecutors nor ASML could be immediately reached for comment.
In February, prosecutors said 43-year-old Aksenov had contact with Russia's FSB intelligence service. ASML and chipmaker NXP, where he also worked, have said they did not believe Aksenov had sold information that could have seriously harmed their businesses.
