Russian Drone Attack Damages Odesa Port Infrastructure Again

KYIV (Reuters) - A Russian overnight drone attack damaged port infrastructure in Ukraine's Odesa region for the second consecutive day, its governor said on Friday.

Governor Oleh Kiper said no-one was wounded in the attack on Odesa district, which also damaged an inactive resort site, causing fires.

The Ukrainian military said on Friday that Russia launched 133 drones against the country overnight.

The air force said it shot down 73 drones and 58 others did not reach their targets, likely due to electronic countermeasures.

It did not specify what happened to the remaining two drones, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said a drone damaged the destroyed Chornobyl nuclear plant's radiation containment shelter in the early hours of Friday.

The Thursday attack also damaged port infrastructure in the region's Izmail district, while neighbouring Moldova said two drones had blown up on its soil and NATO member Romania found drone fragments and remnants of explosives at two sites.

Odesa region is a central hub for Ukraine's Black Sea exports and its port facilities have been regularly attacked by long-range strikes throughout the war launched by Russia in February 2022.
