Georgia Arrests Two Ukrainians for Attempted Explosive Smuggling
Overview of the Arrests
TBILISI (Reuters) -The Georgian Security Service has detained two Ukrainian citizens for attempting to smuggle 2.4 kg of the hexogen explosive into the country from Turkey, Georgian media outlet Interpress reported on Thursday.
Details of the Smuggling Attempt
The explosive was hidden in secret compartments in the detainees' car, Interpress reported, saying that the arrests had occurred on Wednesday.
The Security Service did not disclose the names of the detainees, giving only their initials.
Investigation into Potential Terrorism
Georgian investigators were trying to establish "whether a terrorist attack was being prepared in Georgia or whether Georgia was a transit country," Interpress reported.
In July, Georgia detained two people for handling and attempting to sell $3 million worth of uranium which could have been used to make a deadly bomb.
