Spanish airport operator Aena seeks 6.5% hike in airline fees next year, El Pais

MADRID (Reuters) -Spanish airport operator Aena plans to raise the fees it charges airlines by 6.5% in 2026 as it needs more cash to fund investments, newspaper El Pais reported on Wednesday, citing unidentified sources close to the negotiations.

The airport operator has already asked competition watchdog CNMC to approve the increase, which would raise the maximum fees charged per passenger by 0.68 euros in 2026, El Pais said.

CNMC had rejected Aena's request to raise its fees per passenger by 0.5% in 2025 and forced it to keep them at a maximum 10.35 euros ($12.13) per passenger. The airport operator appealed the decision.

A spokesperson for Aena declined to comment.

Airports charge airlines fees for services including the use of their terminals, runways, aircraft parking, security and baggage handling. The fees have an impact on the price of airline tickets purchased by passengers.
