Starmer's Stance on Cabinet Attacks
LONDON -British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Wednesday that any attack on members of his cabinet was "completely unacceptable", suggesting he was not behind newspaper reports that his allies believed some ministers were plotting to oust him.
Response to Media Reports
"Let me be absolutely clear, any attack on any member of my cabinet is completely unacceptable," Starmer said in parliament, addressing media reports citing unnamed allies of the prime minister saying they feared an attempted coup could come later this month after the budget.
Support from Health Minister
Health minister Wes Streeting, who was named as one contender to challenge Starmer, rejected these claims and said he was confident Starmer would lead the Labour party into the next election in 2029.
Cabinet Appointments Explained
Starmer added that he had appointed his cabinet members "because they're the best people to carry out their jobs," which includes Streeting.
