China Calls on EU to Stop Investigation of Wind Turbine Manufacturer
China's Response to EU Investigation
BEIJING, Feb 4 (Reuters) - China vowed on Wednesday to defend its companies' legitimate rights and interests after the European Union opened an investigation into Chinese wind power company Goldwind Science & Technology.
Concerns Over Unfair Trade Practices
EU state aid regulators said on Tuesday that Goldwind may have received foreign subsidies, giving it an unfair advantage in Europe.
Impact on Chinese Businesses
"We urge the EU to immediately correct its wrongful actions and exercise caution in using the Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) unilateral investigative tool, so as to create a fair, just and predictable market environment for China-EU cooperation," a Chinese commerce ministry spokesperson said.
Global Wind Power Leadership
Earlier on Wednesday, China's foreign ministry said that the EU's "discriminatory and restrictive measures" against Chinese companies send "a protectionist signal".
The EU's "frequent use of unilateral trade and economic tools" damages its image and undermines Chinese businesses' investment confidence, foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters when asked about the investigation.
China is the world's leading producer of wind power. The European Union launched an investigation in 2024 into subsidies received by Chinese suppliers of wind turbines destined for Europe, aiming to shield domestic companies from cheap Chinese imports.
Beijing has described the investigation as an act of protectionism.
