Baroness Martha Lane Fox delivers Opening Keynote 

“There is huge unease in the public sphere about online privacy, security and how data is being used. We cannot have a robust society if technology is undermining our democratic institutions. I believe it’s crucial to keep liberal values at the heart of our digital world and infrastructure. I am a technology optimist. This is a moment to ensure that we help people through their anxieties, build a positive future, not look backward but rather use technology to conquer the challenges we face and help the UK to set a global standard in digital resilience and responsibility.” Baroness Martha Lane Fox

News for release, 6 June 2018: The second day of Europe’s leading information security event, Infosecurity Europe, kicked off with a keynote presentation by Baroness Martha Lane Fox, co-founder of lastminute.com and Co-Founder & Executive Chair, Doteveryone.  Baroness Fox described how the internet has grown from an exciting and empowering information exchange network for digital entrepreneurs with few data security or privacy considerations, to a place that is now causing anxiety amongst the general public. By putting ethics and morals at the heart of the decisions that the industry makes, Fox outlined her belief that this will empower users, help them to build a resilient digital life and strengthen the UK’s democratic institutions.

Infosecurity Europe also hosted its first-ever Cybersecurity for Critical National Infrastructure Symposium, moderated by Talal Rajab, Head of Programme, Cyber & National Security, TechUK. Dr Jamie Shea, Deputy AssistantSecretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, NATO delivered his Opening Keynote on Analysing the Scope of theThreat to CNI to Drive Effective Risk Mitigation and speakers in the Symposium programme included representatives from Arqiva, BT Security, DCMS, TechUK and Thames Water.

KETS Quantum Security was crowned the UK’S Most Innovative Small Cyber Security Company of the Year, a nationwide competition supported by the Department of Digital Culture, Media and Sport, and sponsored by SNC-Lavalin Atkins, having pitched their to an expert judging panel and Infosecurity Europe audience.

Careers for women in cybersecurity were under the spotlight at the Women in Cybersecurity Networking Breakfast where explorer, scientist and author Felicity Aston gave the opening speech to a packed room of industry professionals that met to celebrate the women of cybersecurity and discuss the challenges around diversity.  The event was hosted by Eleanor Dallaway, Editor of InfosecurityMagazine.
