New Partner Joshua Samis to Join from Kirkland & Ellis LLP

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery announced today that it is continuing the expansion of its finance and private equity practices with the addition of Joshua Samis. Mr. Samis will join McDermott as Partner is its Chicago office and previously was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Mr. Samis has represented many of the country’s leading and most sophisticated private equity sponsors, private and public companies and commercial lending institutions. He has broad experience in structuring and negotiating domestic and cross-border leveraged buyouts, secured and unsecured financing transactions, recapitalizations and loan workouts and restructurings, including debtor-in-possession financings.

“Josh is a highly respected finance lawyer with extensive experience handling a broad range of sophisticated financing transactions,” said Brooks Gruemmer, head of McDermott’s Chicago Corporate Advisory practice. “We are excited to add Josh to our fast-growing roster of finance and private equity lawyers in Chicago and are looking forward to him working in close coordination with our private equity and finance attorneys across the firm.”

Mr. Samis arrives on the heels of fellow Corporate & Transactional partner, Gregory Metz, who joined the firm’s Chicago office last month from Ropes & Gray. Their arrivals are the latest in a string of notable recent hires by McDermott’s Corporate & Transitional practice group, including Ian Schwartz, Ivan Presant, Jeremy Dickens, Gary Emmanuel, Robert Goldstein, Daniel Martin and Frank Steinherr in New York, as well as the recent overseas additions of Piero Carbone, Michael Holter and Alicia Videon in London, and Dr. Michael Cziesla and Dr. Oliver Hahnelt in Frankfurt.

“For the past year the Firm has prioritized growth in its private equity capabilities worldwide. The addition of Josh is the latest step in that strategic expansion,” said Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional practice. “At McDermott we continuously strive to better serve our clients. The recent additions of these high-caliber lawyers are a testament to that commitment.”
