Momentum Pensions, the growing pension specialist and SIPP provider, has appointed Heather Smyth to the newly-created role of Group Legal Counsel.

Her appointment underlines the commitment to expansion at the UK and international pensions specialist and enables the group to further enhance services for clients and advisers.

The newly-created role of Group Legal Counsel builds on significant investment in technology and recruitment of administration staff at Momentum which has achieved growth of 35% in UK SIPP accounts over the past 12 months as group assets under administration have expanded to more than £1.25 billion.

Stewart Davies, CEO of Momentum Pensions said: “The appointment of a Group Legal Counsel brings more expertise to our senior management team as we work to take the company to the next level.

“We have significant plans for 2018 and need the right people in place to ensure that we deliver for both our clients and advisers and remain very nimble in a competitive market.”

Heather Smyth, Group Legal Counsel at Momentum Pensions added: “The pension market is changing rapidly underlining the need for in-house expertise which makes the opportunity to join Momentum Pensions so exciting.”

Her previous roles include Head of Legal at plant hire group Hewden Stuart where she led an in-house legal and insurance team and as a Manager and Head of Legal with Peel Airports Group and Vantage Airports UK Limited.

Momentum has a pedigree in the SIPP market stretching back over 20 years and is established as a top 20 provider in the UK.

Momentum has taken a dynamic approach to the development of its SIPP range which is designed to evolve with clients as their investment requirements change, enabling investors to move between the products, free of charge, when they need to.

The Momentum SIPP Range is administered in Manchester and is backed by a highly skilled team with servicing and technical expertise, including property transactions, within the specialist pension market.

It was the first company to offer the option of switching for free within a multi-jurisdictional proposition.
