Venable LLP is pleased to announce that James E. Tyrrell III has joined the firm’s growing Political Law and Nonprofit practices as counsel in the Washington, DC office. Mr. Tyrrell focuses on complex political law compliance and campaign finance regulation for a wide range of corporate and political clients.

Mr. Tyrrell previously worked at a national law firm, where he advised companies, PACs, super PACs, nonprofit organizations, trade associations, and state and national party committees on federal and state campaign finance laws, lobbying disclosure, government ethics rules, and pay-to-play laws. He has represented clients in enforcement proceedings before the Federal Election Commission, as well as before various state agencies and courts. Earlier in his career, Mr. Tyrrell clerked for the Chairman of the Federal Election Commission.

“Jim adds great experience to our bipartisan political law team and strengthens our ability to help clients with the complex laws regulating political spending and public policy engagement,” said Lawrence H. Norton, chair of Venable’s Government Division. “His addition, along with the arrival of two associates who recently joined the Political Law practice, signals our continued growth in this area.”

Commenting on his move to Venable, Mr. Tyrrell said, “I was drawn to the firm because of the political law team’s national profile and the way the team collaborates with the firm’s other premier practices, such as nonprofit law and data privacy, to provide a comprehensive approach to client problems.”

Mr. Tyrrell received his J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in 2010 and his B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003.
