Social and Sustainable Capital (SASC), a UK fund manager and social enterprise, has further strengthened its investment committee by welcoming Philippa Charles, Director, Garfield Weston Foundation, a family-founded grant-making trust donating over £60 million annually across the UK charitable sector.

Philippa brings extensive experience to SASC. Prior to her role at the Garfield Weston Foundation, she worked in a global role in Associated British Foods. Her career has also included roles in banking at Barclays Plc and in professional services at Ernst & Young and JM Consulting.

As part of SASC’s investment committee, Philippa will be helping to analyse and make investment decisions.

Commenting on her new role, Philippa said, “SASC’s vision is to make investments that foster social good. It has a very smart, dedicated, high quality team who work together effectively, which really impressed me.”

“When I joined, SASC already had an agile and adept committee, with rigorous investment processes in place. Its approach to investment centres on social impact and this is also a key area of focus of my work at the Foundation. I look forward to working with the committee to analyse investments and support the decision-making processes.”

Ben Rick, Co-Founder and Managing Director of SASC said, “Philippa brings tremendous experience and energy to SASC. She offers different perspectives on our discussions and will be a real asset in terms of further strengthening and supporting our investment making processes.”
