Naftogaz Secures Legal Victory Over Gazprom in Swiss Court
March 13 (Reuters) - Ukrainian state energy firm Naftogaz has won a lawsuit against Russia's Gazprom over the payment of a $1.4 billion debt for gas transportation, it said on Friday.
Details of the Swiss Court Ruling
The Swiss Federal Supreme Court has rejected an application from Gazprom to overturn a June 2025 arbitral award that it must pay the more than $1.4 billion to Naftogaz along with interest, the Ukrainian firm said in a statement.
Court-Ordered Payments and Compensation
The court also ordered Gazprom to pay court fees of 200,000 Swiss francs ($254,000) and to compensate Naftogaz in the proceedings to the tune of 250,000 Swiss francs, Naftogaz said.
Gazprom did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

The Swiss court, which in its published rulings generally does not name individual parties, said this week it had found that a complaint brought by a Russian firm majority-owned by the state was unfounded.
Arbitral Tribunal Decision
In June 2025, a Swiss arbitral tribunal ordered Gazprom to pay the debt for gas transportation services, along with interest and arbitration costs, Naftogaz said.
CEO's Statement and Future Steps
"Switzerland's highest court has confirmed the validity of the arbitral award and definitively rejected the Russian side's arguments," Naftogaz quoted its CEO Serhiy Koretskyi as saying.
Naftogaz will continue to work on the enforcement of the award, Koretskyi added.
Origin of the Arbitration Proceedings
The Ukrainian company initiated arbitration proceedings against Gazprom in 2022, demanding the Russian oil major pay for the rendered service of organising natural gas transportation through Ukraine.
