The band is returning to the 9:30 Club stage after winning the second annual DC battle in 2016 and raising the most money, with over $20,000 in donations, ticket sales, and sponsorships
Noise in the Basement, a local alt-rock band that includes Venable attorneys Andrew Price, Damon Wright, Bri Rizzo, and Steve Freeland, will be featured as the returning champion in the third annual Law Rocks DC battle of the bands fundraiser on September 28, 2017, at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. The group won the second annual Law Rocks DC battle in 2016 and was the top fundraiser among all bands, raising over $20,000 in donations, ticket sales, and sponsorships, of which more than $8,700 was donated to Venable’s pro bono client, Together We Bake. This year, the band will once again raise funds for Together We Bake, an empowerment-based job training program for women in need of a second chance within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Law Rocks hosts a series of battle of the band fundraising concerts in cities across the globe, starring local legal professionals. It provides an opportunity for the legal community to bring attention and funding to deserving local nonprofits. For the 2016 international tour, Noise in the Basement’s performance was recognized by Law Rocks as the #1 moment of the tour. The band recently represented Venable and Together We Bake at Law Rocks Los Angeles at the world-famous Whisky a Go Go.
Founded in 2012, Together We Bake empowers women who have experienced incarceration, homelessness, and long-term unemployment with the knowledge, job training, and life skills to improve their lives. This unique organization, which provides job training centered on a micro-baking business, helps women gain self-confidence, transferable workforce skills, and invaluable hands-on experience to find sustainable employment and move toward self-sufficiency. Together We Bake’s women learn food production, food safety education, product packaging and delivery, and customer service, along with better self-awareness, self-esteem, responsibility, and accountability. With only an 8 percent recidivism rate, Together We Bake’s graduates have achieved career success in the food service and hospitality industry, and even more have transformed their lives.
One hundred percent of the donations raised by Noise in the Basement will go to Together We Bake. To donate and purchase tickets to the event, please visit https://lawrocks.org/wdc/ and select that you’re supporting Noise in the Basement and Together We Bake.
