A shocking 80,000 children in Britain will wake up homeless this Christmas and Shelter is calling on the British public to help put a stop to this, simply by wearing their slippers to work.
Businesses across the country can support Shelter’s emergency Christmas appeal by pledging their support for Slippers for Shelter on 18 December. All it takes is three simple steps:
1. Wear your slippers into work
2. Donate just £2 to Shelter; and
3. Take a ‘footsie’ to share on social media with #slippersforshelter
Wear Slippers To Work And Help Britain’s 80,000 Homeless Children This Christmas
By giving shoes and heels the heave-ho and bringing slipper-kitsch to the office, people can help Shelter support the thousands of children who find the comfort of home a world away on Christmas Day.
Many will be forced to spend the festive season in an emergency bed and breakfast or hostel, cramped into one room with their whole family and often facing run-down, over-crowded conditions.
Campbell Robb, chief executive of Shelter, said: “No child should have to wake up homeless on Christmas morning, but this year that’s the reality for 80,000 children in Britain. We’re calling on the British public to help us make sure that next Christmas these children have a home they can call their own.”
Nationwide Building Society is the first to pledge its support to Slippers for Shelter. From branch staff to back office, Nationwide employees across the country will be donning their slippers for the day to raise money for the appeal. Every penny donated will help the charity support more families facing homelessness.
