Heidelberger CEO: Trump's Tariff Threats Not Serious

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Everything U.S. President Donald Trump says should not be taken seriously, said the CEO of German offset printing presses maker Heidelberger Druckmachinen in remarks published on Wednesday.

"You can't take everything he says seriously, the president, he always provides some direction," said CEO Juergen Otto.

"If tariffs are imposed, our customers will have to pay for them," Otto said, adding that no local manufacturer in the United States is capable of producing large printing machines.

The world's largest producer of offset printing presses makes about 400 million euros ($412.84 million) of revenue in the United States, which is a sixth of its annual global sales.

"If a competitor were to decide in favour of local production, we would have a two or three year time frame to react in advance," the CEO added.
