Diplomatic Developments Following Crans-Montana Bar Fire
Background of the Incident
ZURICH, April 5 (Reuters) - Italy's ambassador to Switzerland will return to his post, the Swiss foreign ministry said, months after he was recalled in protest over Swiss authorities' handling of a deadly New Year's Day bar fire in the Alpine resort of Crans-Montana.
Italy’s Response to the Fire
Italy recalled the diplomat in January to express its disapproval at the release on bail of the owner of the bar, where a fire killed 41 people, including six Italian nationals, in one of the worst disasters in modern Swiss history.
Ambassador’s Return to Switzerland
The Swiss foreign ministry said the ambassador, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, was expected to arrive in Bern on Monday.
